Fashion. A term so flexible it can be a noun, verb or idiom. Synonymous to words such as glam, beauty, culture, style, vogue. Icons with the likes of Coco Chanel & Gianni Versace to recent phenomenon as Marc Jacobs, this society is inspired by fashion. It’s a revolution all on its own. Some say love can move mountains, well then fashion is love and So Cal is its mountain.
Summer 2008 trend is no different. Inspiration for this season’s best is definitely coming from the obtuse fashion trend reports from the big wigs- Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Emilio Pucci, etc. Thanks to the always so innovative Marc Jacobs, see through materials are very apparent for the season. Call it “Bare Market” or the “underwear” effect but transparent chiffons & layered sheers are here for the season. Girls, renew that gym membership of yours because this is definitely something sexy you don‘t want to miss out on! J
Continuing with the same sexy theme, bid farewell to the excess of the 80’s fashion (thank god!) & welcome the romanticism of the 40’s. Add a little romance in your wardrobe with tiered ruffles, frills and floral prints. Luxurious materials are the key ingredient- leather, silks & fine embroidery will enhance the romanticism era in your closet.
Colors & accessories? Purple definitely takes the cake- violet to lilac & everything in between this hue family reigns, it is after all, the color of royalty. Alongside the purple family are- sugar almonds, soft tints, and of course the citrus block (orange, peach, tangerine, citrus green, lemon, mandarin)-- gosh, that made me thirsty for a mimosa!
Bangles are bigger than ever, almost as big as those sunglasses of the season. Skinny belts however replaces the thick chunky belts of last season. Don’t know where to hold all of these accessories? Grab yourself one of those clutches to troll around with.
As a shoe designer, I can honestly tell you that we pretty much grab the same concept & just put it on your feet. So, to all my pretties, while you’re getting that gym membership renewed make an appointment for a pedi while you’re at it. Peep toes, gladiators, t-strap heels & our season staple- those espadrilles will help you show off those newly painted toes (try Star of the Party by Nicole (OPI) in respect to the season‘s hottest color!)
Now let’s not forget about our guys! This season offers plenty of prints with the ever so comfy cargo shorts- roomy, sporty, casual & fun! Prints such as camos, subtle florals (in muted colors) and plaids are the favorites. Great for pretty much every body type. As you visit Nordy’s to grab a pair of Sevens- stop by the Rail to grab your dude a couple too. The most popular this season are Rock n’ Republics with their trademark back pockets & my personal faves for my guy-True Religions. Yes, ladies… designer jeans aren’t just for us anymore!
Tees in urban prints (bold colors like purples, black, greens and blues are very hot!) are still fabulous for that laid back we always seem to “bump” into at the local yogurt hotspot. Just as last winter’s argyle sweater- has now been reincarnated into tees. Think simple tones of blues and grays. To add to your guy’s wardrobe? Easy enough, the always reliable polo shirts. Pick them up at in nautical themes (blue and white- stripes: big or small will do).
Just like the women, the fabrics being used with the men’s clothing wear for the season are very modern and comfortable. The likes of Michael Kors and DKNY certainly knows how to capture the privileged, leisurely life look. Tapping into the urban way of life- they guys can now wear their threads to work and casually wear it for a night out after work. Mimicking the hues used with the women’s lines, the men will be seen in lots of purples, grays, and nautical themes.
Alright kids, the lesson learned? Get to working out & a much needed spa day with the girls, because this season will have you flaunting your best assets and then some! Have fun with the frills, laces and colors- after a season of being cooped up in baggy tops & leggings we can finally show our curves again! Remember- “Simply Trendy. Strictly Sexy.”
